How to Fix a Clogged Toilet

How to Fix a Clogged ToiletEveryone experiences, at one time or another, a clogged toilet in their home. This can be a result of too much toilet paper, inappropriate items being flushed, or can simply be an untimely misfortune. When this happens, you will need to know what to do so that you can fix the problem right away. There are a few easy things you can try to get your Riverside plumbing functioning properly again.

A Few Quick and Easy Fixes

If the toilet does not flush once, don’t try again. If you keep on flushing, it may overflow. If you can see the clog in the toilet, put on some rubber gloves and take it out. If you can’t, you can try plunging it. A toilet plunger should always be kept by the toilet. Place the rubber part in the hole of the toilet and repeatedly push it in and pull back. The suction caused should bring up a clog. If this does not work, you should grab a wire hanger and unravel it so it becomes a long piece of wire. Leave a hook shape at the end and stick the wire down into the toilet. Wiggle it around and try to hook onto the clog. You may be able to drag the clog back out. This may work better if you use a plumbing snake. The snake can get through the bends in the pipe easier without causing any damage. If this does not work, you can try to use a vacuum. Get a wet-dry vacuum that can cope with the water. Vacuum all the water out of the toilet bowl and stick it down into the hole. If you need to, place a rag around the end of the vacuum to give it good suction. This may get the clog out.

A Persistent Clog

If none of the above methods work, you should call a plumber. The clog is likely deep into the Riverside plumbing or is too strong to get out on your own. A professional will know what to do and can find the clog and fix it easily.
